But I’d say Gale, Billy, Tatum, Sidney, and Judy their own well enough for the most part too (minus a few nitpicks here or there. Stoner Bro Stu and Randy made for a fun and likeable duo, and probably the two I liked most. There’s a lot going on here, and it did verge in just a little too much when it comes to Scream for my personal taste.Įnsemblewise, I think it was generally solid enough bunch too with most everyone being likeable and a solid cast of suspects. But I do wonder if some elements couldn’t have been dialed back a little between the secret passages, more secret affairs than actually established relationships, murderous child grooming psychologists, etc. Most of it is incorporated pretty nicely into your plot (particularly the motive and executed well), and you execute it all well. there’s a LOT of seedy town drama going on here between slashings. I do have to say, and this part is TOTALLY subjective/a matter of taste, but, I think you leaned a little too into the soapy Twin Peaks/Veronica Mars-esque seedy town stuff a bit more than I personally like in Scream. There’s a few that didn’t land (I hated “Fuck Bruce Willis” in Scream 4… so I didn’t really need a second coming of that line lol), but more did for me than didn’t. You had some decently tense scenes as well and cute homages to the originals ( Stu recreating the Tatum garage scene was an especially fun one, and ended with a cool death as well) as well as no shortage of interesting subversions. I also really liked the Randy podcast stuff and thought that was a fun modernization too) as well as some neat spins on the OG (Bringing Judy in as a student was a pretty inspired choice that makes sense). I definitely appreciated how wildly different it was, and I do think there were some pretty genius modernizations actually (Gale’s True Crime Netflix Documentary is a pretty perfect update for 2022, honestly. And while I do have some (mostly pretty subjective and meant to be entirely constructive for writing going forward) critiques, I definitely want to make it clear I liked it for sure. Alright, I gave the first one a read through but haven’t gotten to 2 and 3 yet, so review incoming (complete with marked spoilers).
